The fallen fan-favorite hero Morph from the 90's X-Men animated series is immortalized in a new figure in Hasbro's Marvel Legends toy line.

Hasbro gets nostalgic by bringing the shape-shifting Morph of X-Men: The Animated Series to their Marvel Legends line.

The exclusive action figure, inspired by the popular '90s cartoon, is perfectly captured in all of his six-inch glory. Known for his pranks around the team, Morph is made with multiple points of articulation, wears his yellow and blue spandex uniform and comes with his X-Men bomber jacket. His unique features include alternate hands and a different head based on his evil turn in X-Men: TAS Season 2 when he was captured and brainwashed by Mr. Sinister. The head change seemingly serves as a throwback to the classic Toy Biz X-Men line where the Morph figure came with alternate heads of his fellow teammates.

Another interesting part of the action figure is the packaging. Morph is packed into a vintage VHS collectible box that closely resembles the X-Men: TAS home video releases from the 90s. The cover art is a screenshot of Morph running from a burning building, which resembles a scene from the original pilot episode, "Night of the Sentinels."

Created by Roy Thomas and Werner Roth in Marvel's The X-Men #35 in Aug. 1967, the character originated as Kevin Sydney/Changeling, an adversary of the mutants who eventually joined the team and died while masquerading as Professor X in a battle against the alien Z'Nox. He was then reinterpreted as Morph in 1992's X-Men: TAS where he sacrificed his life to save Wolverine attack in "Night of the Sentinels."

As showrunner Eric Lewald and writer Julia Lewald discussed in the book X-Men: The Art and Making of the Animated Series, Morph's death was initially planned to be permanent to set the series' dark tone. Despite their intention, the Fox Network requested that Morph be resurrected in Season 2. "Eric and Mark [Edens, head writer] decided to take the opportunity to do something different with Morph," said the Lewalds. "Now he would be ‘damaged Morph,’ bitter about being left behind to die, so he has been led to believe, by the X-Men. Since he knew them so well and was a shape-shifter, he became, for a time, the team's most dangerous adversary."

The characters of X-Men: TAS will be back on the small screen with Marvel Studios' X-Men '97 coming to Disney+ sometime in 2023. The series will continue the plot of the original series with most of the original voice actors reprising their roles.

Hasbro's Marvel Legends Morph figure can be pre-ordered now at Hasbro Pulse for $27.99 USD. All episodes of X-Men: TAS are now available for streaming on Disney+. X-Men '97 does not yet have a specific release date.
