The add-ons from the Nissan Build Your Z tool are often not worth the cost, and here are the most expensive you can buy!

Delivery of the new Nissan Z is upon us! Aside from the things we know about the 2023 Nissan Z coupe, Nissan provided prospective buyers a "Build Your Z" tool that allows you to customize with various add-ons. We break down the most expensive add-on options available from the "Build Your Z" tool.

Unfortunately, the "Build Your Z" tool doesn't provide any options to boost the power of your new Nissan Z. Instead, the add-ons you have access to are aesthetic-based. Also, make sure you have some extra cash saved up, as these are the most expensive add-ons from Nissan's "Build Your Z."

Factory and dealer-installed add-ons add some nice visuals, and some tech upgrades provide additional luxuries. But these high-priced add-ons have aftermarket parts that can save you a decent chunk of change!

The latest version of the Nissan Z sees some exciting color schemes as options. Colors that don't add additional cost include the Gun Metalli, Black Diamond, and Rosewood Metallic colors. However, if you're looking for a hue that stands out, you'll need to fork out some cash.

The two-toned Passion Red Tri-Coat/ Super Black color is the most expensive paint option. For a cool $1,695, your new Nissan Z can sport this bright red shade. While it's the most expensive option on the "Build Your Z" tool, the Ikazuchi Yellow and Seiran Blue aren't far behind at $1,295.

Adding a rear spoiler is one of the most popular additions to the Nissan Z lineup, and the next-generation model is no different. For $630, you can add a custom-designed trunk lip spoiler that Nissan claims improve aerodynamics.

Unfortunately, the rear trunk spoiler is the only style available, meaning wing-style spoilers remain in the aftermarket territory. Regardless, this dealer-installed part matches the color of the Nissan Z and looks better than a plain trunk!

If you plan to take your Nissan Z to the track, some race stripes might be appropriate. Luckily, you can get a dealer-installed set made from durable materials for $595. Although, you can easily make this addition more expensive if you select the option with the spoiler. In that case, expect to spend $1,225— $595 for the racing stripe and $630 for the spoiler!

The race stripes are gray and run from the hood, across the roof, and onto the trunk hatch. While the style looks great, we wonder if the almost $600 for what amounts to vinyl stickers is worth it.

Another somewhat questionably expensive option in the "Build Your Z" tool is the retractable cargo cover. At $500, this dealer-installed feature mounts easily and claims silky-smooth operation that stows away when not in use.

The retractable cargo cover promises to keep prying eyes from peeking at what's inside your trunk. We can't help but notice similar items go for less than $100 on aftermarket sites like Amazon.

The Nissan Virtual Key is a pretty helpful feature for those who love their smart devices. Users can download the Virtual Key app for smartphones and even the Apple Watch to control locking, unlocking, and starting your Nissan Z.

One of the best benefits of the Virtual Key is the ability to give access to friends and family. What's even better is the level of access you can give them. For example, if you want to let someone drive, provide them access in-app. But, for those who can look but not touch, you can restrict access to only unlock/lock.

Accent lighting is becoming an increasingly popular feature and is now available for your Nissan Z. The interior accent lighting utilizes 20 pre-programmed colors to provide light under the footwells and in the front cup holders.

You can control the lights with an on/off switch on the dash, but they also run when the door is open. We love this feature, but the $445 price has us questioning our design preferences!

The sill under your door takes a lot of abuse when climbing in and out of your Nissan Z. That's why Nissan decided to offer a brushed metal kick plate to protect the trim. This metal kick plate fits perfectly with the door shape and features the stylized "Z" branding.

What makes these kick plates unique is that the "Z" branding illuminates. The brushed metallic illuminated kick plates go for $400, and Nissan crafts them from stainless steel.

To wrap up the lighting options from the Nissan "Build Your Z" tool, we have the exterior ground lighting option for $395. The exterior ground lighting illuminates the ground under and around the new Nissan Z.

The most considerable benefit for the exterior ground lighting, besides looking sick, is the extra security. Using the key fob activates the lights located between the front and rear wheels, and they fade with the dome lights inside.

The carpeted floor mats package includes more than custom-formed floor mats and a protective trunk mat. It also has a first aid kit with Velcro for easy removal, a cargo net, and a branded "Z" portfolio for your owner's manual.

The floor mats have a unique backing material to prevent them from sliding around. And the front floor mats include hooks and holes for even more staying power. This package, with the cargo net and first aid kit, is actually worth the $380 price. Though, we kinda expected carpet to be standard.

Dash cams are becoming a reliable way to protect yourself should something go awry. The dual camera drive recorder available from the Nissan "Build Your Z" tool provides coverage in front of the vehicle and inside the cabin.

The dual camera drive recorder sports an impact sensor that triggers recording in case of a break-in. Footage captured on the recorder can provide police and insurance tangible evidence to work from.
