On Tuesday, the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) released next year’s season schedule. The most exciting ticket on the docket? A series of qualifying events for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. In 2020, ‘Sport Climbing’ made its Olympic debut at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Now, competitors will have a second chance at gold, silver and bronze. Qualifying matches will begin at the end of the IFSC’s traditional season, with five events stretching from September 9 to December 17. The events include speed and boulder competitions, and a long list of fan favorites are expected to compete. That said, any burgeoning rock climbers with their sights set on 2028 can find our top-recommended gear for any smaller, initial competitions here.

Today we’re taking a look at a new dry backpack, inventive grill and baseball hat. This is Today in Gear.

Originally designed for late-season wear in harsh environments, Goldwin has reimagined this outdoor fleece to create a new protective layer that’s ready for a sheltered stroll or city living. Goldwin kept the fleece both lightweight and fairly thin to ensure it can be worn comfortably for longer periods and tucked neatly into your favorite shell jacket or insulated puffer. Made with breathable Polartec 100 Micro Fleece, this fleece is resistant to pilling, smooth to the touch and comfortably retains heat. If exposed to sweat or rain, the jacket is designed to dry quickly and features zippered pockets on both sides for added storage. Pair the piece with all your favorite seasonal layers, or wear it on its own for a cozy fit any day of the week.

Filson’s new Dry Backpack is equipped to keep all your favorite gear dry no matter what. The bag comprises PU-coated 840 denier nylon to ensure full waterproofing and abrasion resistance. The flexible material is coated to protect against UV light damage and features breathable, high-density EVA foam padding on the back and shoulder straps. The bag is designed to stay dry even if fully submerged and retails for $210.

This week, the third Gucci x North Face collection went live. The collection echoed many of the same bold prints and themes of previous collections but included a few standout pieces (plus, for what it’s worth, one bright yellow $2,300 coat). However, if you’re looking for one standout piece that will stand the test of time – if not immediately make its way into vintage archives everywhere – it’s this North Face x Gucci baseball hat. For $590, the piece delivers all the brand recognition you need while leaving room for warmer, more technical gear to come.

NemeN recently celebrated its 10th anniversary with a new Fall/Winter 2022 collection. The new range examines the brand’s decade of dyeing and textile research and revolves around several stunning jackets and prints. To create the range, the brand tapped the artist Leafcutter John, who used a unique pattern-generating formula to create several complex prints in JAVA code. From there, the garments were manufactured on the island of Java – resulting in a design entitled “From JAVA to Java.” One clear standout from the collection is the bright green, water-repellant LEAF – DOWN JKT, which contains recycled goose down and retails for $1,545.

This futuristic device may look like a reimagined cauldron, but it’s actually a suspended grill, smoker and fire pit. Boasting an "easy-to-use design," the Burch Barrel V2 is built to work with charcoal, briquettes or your favorite wood. Slide vents on the top and side of the barrel ensure precision airflow control, while the Everlevel tripod will keep the grill perfectly even no matter what surface you’re grilling on.
